Born in Decatur, Georgia in 1954, Gary Weiss has had an interest in art as early as he can remember. After receiving a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Georgia State University, he was introduced to some of the nation’s top painters and illustrators. Recognizing the need for more classical training, he continued his studies to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from California’s renowned Art Center College of Design.
During his college years, Gary spent his evenings and weekends pursuing his personal passion: drawing and painting in oils. He first exhibited personal work in galleries in 2002, and currently shows in Georgia and South Carolina. The artist also serves on the Council of Illustration at Portfolio Center, Atlanta’s top design school.
With subject matter including still-life, plein air landscape, and the human figure, his compelling collection of impressionist oil paintings combines bold brushwork and subtle color to reflect both the beauty of the subject and the joy of creation.
An avid hiker and outdoorsman, Gary travels throughout the United States, painting landscapes on location.
